Kutum, Feb14 ( Darfur 24)Dozens of families fled the “Zarq” area in North Darfur as a result of air strikes carried out by the Sudanese Army Air Force since mid-January.

Those fleeing from the “Zarf” area arrived in the city of “Kutum”, west of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and stayed in shelter centers in schools, which put unprecedented pressure on them, according to the “Rayan” Organization for Social Development, a national organization working in North Darfur.

Saif Al-Malik Muhammad, Director of the “Rayan” Organization for Social Development, said during a regular meeting for water and environmental sanitation, with the participation of a number of water partners and some organizations working in the humanitarian field, that the city of “Kutum” is witnessing massive overcrowding these days, especially in schools, due to people fleeing from the “Kutum” area. Zarq and other areas, in addition to the return of families who fled the city during the battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces last June.

He pointed out that the displaced and returnees need assistance, but the locality is witnessing a complete absence of organizations working in the humanitarian field, before calling on the competent authorities to intervene urgently to help the displaced and returnees to Kutum.

The Sudanese Army Air Force launched a series of air strikes on the “Zarq” area, the last of which was last week, causing the death of at least five civilians, according to residents.
