Adis, Feb 13(Darfur24)On Tuesday, the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces CCDF discussed developments in the situation in Sudan with a senior American official.
Regional and international pressure is intensifying on the army and rapid support to resume negotiations, with the aim of ending the conflict, which has left a humanitarian crisis that has led to the death of some Sudanese from starvation, according to reports received by the United Nations.
Progress said, in a statement obtained by Darfur 24, that a delegation from it met, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly V.
She indicated that the meeting discussed developments in the situation in Sudan and efforts to end the war and achieve lasting peace and democratic civil transition. It also discussed the coalition’s vision for ending the conflict, which is about to reach its tenth month.
Press reports talk about the Jeddah Platform calling on the two parties to the conflict to resume negotiations this February, but the army’s condition for removing the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) from the platform may hinder resumption efforts.
The government of Sudan, which is subject to the army, froze its dealings with IGAD to end the conflict, in protest against the invitation of the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, to participate in the extraordinary summit held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
She said that the meeting with Molly will discuss the upcoming coalition plans until its founding conference is held at the end of this February.
