South Darfur police force led by Major Abdel-Razzaq Al-Obaid – on Saturday – began its duties in the central Nyala section, where they took over the section from the Rapid Support Forces, which were carrying out police duties after they took control of the city. Al-Obaid said that the force, estimated at 500 policemen, announced their readiness to carry out their duties as Of them, 217 police officers have now attended.
While the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces in South Darfur, Colonel Saleh Al-Fouti, said that the purpose of summoning the police forces to perform their police duties is not to include them in the Rapid Support Forces, as some claim, he said.
The police forces in South Darfur have ceased their duties and disappeared from sight since the outbreak of war between the army and the Rapid Support on April 15.
The second commander of the support forces, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahim Dagalo, had announced the assignment of Major General Bashir Adam Issa to manage the state police after it took control of the city of Nyala, and he issued a call to all police forces, prosecutors, and other employees of service institutions to return to carrying out their work.
Al-Futi stressed that the Rapid Support Forces will stand with the police forces in the state and support them to carry out their role in maintaining security and providing civil services to citizens.
While policeman Ahmed Musa Saber told Darfur 24 that they had returned to carry out their duties to protect security and the property of citizens, Saber appealed to the rest of his police colleagues to join them.
Policewoman Fatima Haroun Issa said that they came to carry out their duties voluntarily and by choice, in loyalty to the police and to serve the city of Nyala.
