El-Obeid , 8 October (Darfur 24)
On Sunday, clashes were renewed between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El Obeid, the provincial capital of North Darfur State, amid reports of casualties among civilians.
Security sources told Darfur 24 that army forces attacked one of RSF camps in the city from two axes. The sources indicated that heavy artillery were used in the confrontation leaving a number of people dead and wounded.
The fighting between the two rival forces sparked fear and panic among the city’s residents prompting traders to close their shops in the city’s markets.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera quoted sources in the city as saying that 16 wounded civilians admitted to the Emergency and Injuries Hospital as a result of clashes between the army and RSF in the western neighborhoods of the city of Al-Obeid.
The Rapid Support Forces have been besieging the city of El Obeid for several months, with tight control over most of the roads leading to the city, which is strategically located in the center of the country.
Three days ago, Sudanese army warplanes bombed several RSF gathering points southeast of the city.
