Armed confrontations have been renewed between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces(RSF) in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, after the city witnessed calm for several days.

 

Darfur24 sources from inside Nyala said that the Rapid Support Forces launched an intensive attack today on of the 16th Infantry Division fromfour axes. On the other hand, the army warplanes launched air strikes targeting the RSF sites in the city. The source stated that they had received information indicating that the warplanes were seen flying in the sky of “Umm Al-Qura” area, 44 kilometers north of the city of Nyala which, is inhabited by a majority of families of RSF members.

 

The source said that army aircrafts fired shells at locations south of the city, including the Alshabymarket and its environs, in addition to the Khartoum Balyl neighborhood and the livestock market north of the city. But so far, there has been no information about the number of civilian casualties.

 

This was the third time that military aircraft have launched raids on sites and neighborhoods inside the city of Nyala, as the aerial bombardment last September 13 killed more than 40 civilians, targeting 7 sites in the city.

 

Since last April 15, the Rapid Support Forces have been trying to control the Army headquarters of the 16th Infantry Division in the center of the city of Nyala.

Fierce battles have taken place between the two sides, leading to the death of hundreds of residents and the injury of others, in addition to the flight of hundreds of families to the city of El Fasher, El Daein, and villages and localities in South Darfur.
