Dozens of women gather in front of the Sudanese Red Crescent premises in Port Sudan daily to obtain a grant from the International Organisation for migration worth $ 100 targeting Internally displaced persons who have fled their homes due the ongoing conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF.
The Red Crescent transferred its offices to Port Sudan, the provincial capital of the Red Sea State, in eastern Sudan, after its offices was burned to ashes in Khartoum as a result of the clashes there between the Sudanese army and rapid support Forces RSF.
A number of women said they didn’t any receive any material support or relief organisation since they were displaced to Port Sudan to escaping fighting in Khartoum, and they do not find any food to feed their children who suffer a lot from hunger.
In its last report last Tuesday, the World Health Organization WHO monitored the death of more than 1,200 children in Sudanese refugee camps during the period from May to September due to hunger and disease, as their slim bodies did not tolerate the cruelty of war conditions.
Shatha, one of the displaced women who intended the Red Crescent to obtain the financial value that she left everything she had in Khartoum, where she was living in an middle economic situation.
Shatha added that the war forced her to flee to go to her people in Port Sudan to live with them, but over time she had to rent a humble house despite the high rental prices in the region.
She emphasized that the rent deprived her children from obtaining food and they are dependent on one meal, as it stands daily in front of the Red Crescent premises to obtain relief or a sum of money.
The Sudanese Red Crescent Secretary -General Barakat Faris revealed in an interview with Sudan Tribune a tendency to increase the financial aid by the International Organization for Immigration, as well as increasing the number of target groups.
The Immigration Organization, in coordination with the Sudanese Red Crescent, grants $ 100 to each of the two thousand families per month
The organization believes that cash transfers reduce the exposure of people in need of asylum to negative adaptation strategies.
Fares confirmed an attempt to open other outlets to register to prevent gathering in front of the Red Crescent headquarters and justified the deficiency of relief distribution that the organization is working with weak capabilities after the war targeted the burning of the Red Crescent offices in Khartoum Bahri, Zalingi and Nyala, along with the pharmaceutical stores and children’s food, stating that 40 ambulances belonging to the Sudanese Red Crescent were looted.
He stated that the worsening conditions due to the war were forced to launch a call for donors to support the Red Crescent in the amount of 60 million Swiss Franks, explaining that only 7% were fulfilled, and with this they seek to fulfill their obligations towards the needy.
He said that they are now, even in conflict areas, and their cadres are working within the available capabilities and helping the displaced people in all states of Sudan, except for 7 states, which are the five states of Darfur, alongside the states of south and west Kordofan due to the security conditions in these areas.
Fares added that one of the biggest challenges facing the Red Crescent in the distribution of relief to the displaced people are their presence with host families.

The Secretary -General of the Red Crescent Society pointed out that they are working to attract more organizations to bridge the human gap, stressing that the lack of funding and interest in the deteriorating humanitarian situation as a result of the war does not stop the political view, as it is present in the human affairs and states deal on the basis of it despite the fact that man is the human being, as he put it.
He added, “Also, one of the challenges of working against the Red Crescent is the dispersion of its employees and cadres due to the state of war in the country, which negatively affected the workflow.
