Nyala, 12May (Darfur 24) 9 civilians were killed and 10 others were seriously injured Saturday in Nyala, the provincial capital of South Darfur state as clashes intensified between the Sudanese army and RSF.
Confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF renewed Friday evening and continued till Saturday afternoon, whereby shells fell in various neighborhoods of the city.
However, 5 people were killed on Thursday in the districts of Karari and Alwadi in southern part of the city as the warring parties used heavy machine guns in their clashes.
It’s estimated that over 200 civilians were killed in Nyala and nearly thousands others were wounded since the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF erupted mid-April.
The rapid support forces RSF have been attempting for more than a month to besiege the head quarters of the 16th army division in Nyala, following the capturing of Rihaid Albirdi, kass, Umkafouk and Mershing army garrison, but it has not succeeded yet.
The recent weeks have witnessed incursion of RSF forces in residential areas in the Southern part of the city of Nyala which saw relative calm during the first two months of the conflict.
