Khartoum, June 16 ( Darfur24) The United Nations said Thursday that the world will not allow a new humanitarian disaster to take place in Sudan again.
The UN humanitarian coordinator, Martin Griffith issued the statement as the conflict enters its third week and the humanitarian situation deteriorates all over the country.
Griffith said” Darfur is rapidly changing into a humanitarian catastrophe and the world won’t allow that to happen again.”
According to the statement, hospitals and water points have been attacked , in addition to offices of humanitarian organisations and killing of relief workers.
The statement stressed widespread of looting of medical and humanitarian assets, in addition to inability of farmers to access their farms and its precautions on food security.
The deadly clashes between the paramilitary , Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese army which erupted mid April, has forced 2.2 million people to leave their homes and seek safety in other parts of Sudan or cross border to neighboring countries.
The world health organisation ( WHO) said nearly 1000 people killed and over 9000 injured since eruption of the fighting between the rivals two months ago.
