Representative of the United Nations secretary-general in Sudan, UNITAMS chief, Volker pertez said the crimes committed in Sudan may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, adding that the security situation, human rights and the humanitarian situation is rapidly detoirating all over Sudan since eruption of conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF on April 15, especially in Khartoum and Darfur region.

In a statement seen by Darfur24, Volker said” while the UN is not able to verify all alleged violations of human rights and the International humanitarian law, information received from several entities and civil society organisations and networks of human rights draw a clear picture of devastating effects on the civilian population”,

The statement expressed UN condemnation of attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

 

The UN statement also expressed the importance of ensuring documentation of all violations, affirming that UNITAMS mission would continue efforts to monitor situation on the ground and harness resources to engage with all parties for sake of peaceful solution to the conflict in collaboration with the regional and international partners.
