Riyadh, June 14(Darfur24) Saudi foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan has announced that Saudi Arabia and a number of its partners seek to organise donor conference to support humanitarian response in Sudan and the region next week.

The Saudi minister said in a tweet seen by Darfur24 that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Germany, EU and the UN will co-chair donor conference to support Sudan and the region.

He said the kingdom will continue its efforts to alleviate crisis in Sudan, hoping that the humanitarian tragedy in Sudan comes to an end in the near future.

Faisal also referred to the efforts exerted by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to alleviate burden on the Sudanese people since eruption of the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) two months ago..

“The kingdom was present from the very beginning to alleviate agony of the Sudanese people through provision of humanitarian aid, evacuation , facilitation of political talks between the rivals in the coastal Saudi city of Jeddah as well as other initiatives.” The Saudi minister concluded .

The conflict-hit African nation has been engulfed by violence for two months.

Sudan has been without a functioning government since 2021 , when the military dismissed prime minister Abdalla Hamadok’s transitional government and declared state of emergency in a move described by political forces as a coup.

Disagreement had been fomenting in recent months between the two sides about integration of RSF into the armed forces- a key condition of Sudan’s transition agreement with political groups.
