Khartoum, June 3(Darfur 24) For more than two weeks, the city of zalengie, central Darfur state, has been isolated from the world due to the fighting between the Sudanese army SAF and the Rapid Support Forces RSF , resulting in communication services cut off and spread of bandits that threatens whoever tries to leave the city..
This coincide the battle between the RSF as SAF in the city’s neighbourhood , preliminary report shows 12 dead , including two kids, in addition to burning, damaging and ransacking private houses, markets and government institutions.
A senior police officer from central Darfur said security and humanitarian situation in the city is out of control due to spread of hundreds of gunmen in the city.
The police officer who preferred his name to be kept anonymous told Darfur 24 that the deadly clashes between RSF and SAf on May 17 scores of civilians dead and injured, hundreds of armed looters on motorcycles stormed the city while fighting between RSF and SAf was still going on, forcing thousands of citizens to leave their houses.
The police officer added that shops, government institutions in addition to UN agencies and NGOS premises were looted and ransacked..
He also disclosed total stoppage of health and medical services, closure of teaching hospital in the city and withdrawal of medical cadres, after the hospital was attacked..
The source appealed to the regional government of Darfur region to intervene and rescue who facing humanitarian disaster in the city.
Some of those who managed to leave the city of zalengie and arrive in Nyala on Friday, said the prices of tickets have jumped from 10.000 to 40. 000 .
A man from zalengie called Abakar Ishag Mohamed who arrived recently in Nyala said tens of dead bodies still lying on the roads of the city and people were not able to move in the city.
A van driver told Darfur 24 that had been shot at more than once on Nyala -Zalengie road since fighting erupted between RSF and SAf , adding that two weeks ago three vans were subjected to armed robbery operations, saying that some his colleagues stopped working due to the security situation, but he will continue working just to save people lives..
