Khartoum, May 8(Darfur24) Fighting  intensifies in Khartoum as  Saudi Arabia announces   continuation of Saudi-US-led  talks  in Jeddah, between representatives of the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces, to reach an “effective ceasefire.”

 

Violent clashes renewed, today, Monday, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of Bahri, north of the capital, Khartoum, while the head of the “Sudan Liberation Movement” Minni Arko Minawi announced that his forces were heading to the Darfur region.

 

Ceasefire negotiations between the two warring parties in Sudan, which are being held in Jeddah, have not made “much progress,” according to a Saudi diplomat who spoke to  Agence France Presse, today, Monday, with the  fighting continues in Khartoum.

 

In response to a Saudi-American initiative, the two military commanders sent their representatives to the city of Jeddah, the day before yesterday, Saturday, to hold talks that Washington and Riyadh described as “initial talks.

 

” “The negotiations have not made much progress so far,” a Saudi diplomat said. He stated, “A permanent ceasefire is not on the table, each side believes it can win the battle.

 

Eyewitnesses reported that violent clashes broke out between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in the Shambat and Halfaya neighborhoods of Bahri, north of Khartoum, according to the Anadolu news agency.

 

Witnesses stated that strong explosions sounded in these areas, as well as hearing the sound of heavy weapons, overflights of military aircraft, and the sound of anti-aircraft guns.

 

These field developments come with Saudi Arabia announcing the continuation of the talks it is hosting in Jeddah, between representatives of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (Ayama), to reach an “effective ceasefire.”
