Khartoum, April 11(Darfur24) The United Nations Integrated Transitional Support Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) issued a statement announcing its grave concern over a videotape being circulated in social media showing a man speaking at a public event last night in Khartoum, requesting a fatwa to allow him to assassinate the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Sudan and head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Support Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Mr. Volcker.
The statement, which Darfur 24 received a copy of, said that the language of incitement and violence will only lead to deepening divisions on the ground, but it will not deter the mission from carrying out its duties.
“While we welcome the voices condemning this video and its content, we call on the Sudanese authorities to take legal action and ensure a proper investigation,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations reaffirms the commitment of the UNITAMS mission to support the people of Sudan in achieving a political transition to democratic governance as set out in its mandate issued by the United Nations Security Council.
