Khartoum, February 13(Darfur24) Member of the Supreme Committee for the  unlicensed Arms Collection, Lieutenant General Abdel -Hadi Abdullah, revealed on Monday that there are (8) million weapons illegally  possessed  by citizens.

Addressing participants of  a workshop  on unregistered  cars and unlicensed weapons  Monday at  the Republican Palace, Al;hadi said  the  spread of illegal  weapons is the most prominent threat of security and peace in the country, as it helps in human trafficking, drug trafficking, smuggling and tribal  wars.

 

He stressed that the committee is monitoring and working to prevent the spread of weapons and their  entery into  the country through 64 border crossings with neighboring countries.

 

He indicated that the campaign to collect weapons comes in the context of responding to the requirements of national security, peace and stability and to meet the call of the African Union calling for the silence of guns and the imposition of the prestige of the state

 

Abdel -Hadi , confirmed that the committee in the next stage focuses on collecting weapons inside the capital and by collecting information about the places of weapons, making broad campaigns, blockade and inspection by joint forces .

 

For his part, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Mr. Al -Taher Hajar, stressed that the process of collecting weapons and  unregistered  vehicles has become the preoccupation of all state agencies because of its association with the security aspect and considered it one of the basic issues.

 

In the context, Major General Maash, Fadlallah Barma Nasser, head of the National Umma Party, said, “The spread of weapons in Sudan is a dangerous phenomenon if we do not remedy it.
