Khartoum, January26(Darfur24)Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed started his talks with Sudanese officials by meeting with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, today, Thursday, at the Republican Palace.

The Council of Ministers said that the meeting dealt with bilateral relations between Sudan and Ethiopia and ways to support and develop them and enhance joint cooperation, in order to achieve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples, as well as ways to strengthen joint coordination mechanisms between the two countries on issues of common concern, regionally and internationally.

Since 2021, the relations between the two countries have witnessed tensions due to the border dispute between the two countries, which led to armed confrontations, during which the Sudanese army was able to liberate  lands  occupied by Ethiopian  since the nineties of the last century.

 

The head of the Sovereignty Council confirmed during the joint talks session between the delegations of the two countries that documents, technical mechanisms and dialogue represent the main reference in the border issue between the two countries.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister expressed his country’s keenness on, support and development of Sudanese-Ethiopian relations.

 

In the session of the joint talks between the Sudanese and Ethiopian sides, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, affirmed that Sudan and Ethiopia are compatible and in agreement on all issues of the Renaissance Dam, which is one of the issues  that led to deterioration of  the relations between the two countries in recent years.

While Abiy Ahmed explained that the purpose of the visit is to show solidarity with Sudan and stand with it at this important stage in its political career.
