Nyala, December25(Darfur25) The South Darfur State Security Committee said that the final death toll from the incidents that took place in Beliel locality of South Darfur State on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday was 11 , including a policeman and a soldier affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces RSF, and 18 wounded.
Speaking after the meeting of the committee on Sunday ,head of Security Committee, Director of the State Police, Major General Muhammad Ahmed Al-Zein, said that the joint forces sent by the State Security Committee until today, Sunday, amounted to 58 military vehicles, and were given authorization and powers in accordance with the emergency law to deal with the situation on the ground.
He added, “The security forces arrested today a number of gunmen riding two Land Cruisers and a tick-tock bike, after a chase and an exchange of fire.”
Yesterday evening, the state security committee imposed a state of emergency and a night curfew in Beliel locality from six in the evening until six in the morning, as part of its plan to contain the incidents.
While the leaders of the Dajo and Rizeigat tribes confirmed, in their meeting with the State Security Committee, that the incidents were renewed today, due to the widespread deployment of government forces.
Head of the delegation of t Dajo tribe, Muhammad Zakaria Arbab, explained that the villages affected by the events witnessed widespread looting of citizens’ property, and said that there is now an urgent need to provide food and drinking water in these villages, given the fact that many water sources were destroyed by the militants.
In the meantime, the Humanitarian Aid Officer in Dreij camp for the displaced, Saadia Abkar Abdullah, said after the arrival of dozens of families to the camp that there are 18 villages whose residents had to flee to different areas, and she added: Some of them arrived in the camps of Kalma, Otash and Dreij, in addition to the village of Damma and the city of Bilil.
She stated that the Humanitarian Aid Commission HAC is now working to enumerate the new arrivals in order to provide them with assistance.
