Nyala, December 13(Darfur24) The Ministry of Education and Guidance in South Darfur has indefinitely announced the suspension of studies in all government and private schools in the state, starting tomorrow, Wednesday, for an period.
Today, Tuesday, the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, witnessed student demonstrations in a number of schools in the city, the students were protesting against the teachers’ . strike .
Hundreds of students closed the roads leading to the city center before the security forces dispersed the demonstrations.
The Ministry decided to suspend studies at all stages, “secondary – primary – intermediate – and pre- school,” in both its government and private schools, following a meeting of the Minister’s Council that was held today, Tuesday.
The ministry said in a press statement that the suspension of the study came in order to preserve the safety of teachers, students, pupils, children and the property of citizens, after the emergence of cases of slippage and attacks that affected educational institutions.
The Central Teachers Committee announced its members had gone on strike that would continue until the end of December , demanding implementation of the cabinet decision to increase the minimum wage to 69 thousand pounds.
