Khartoum, November 17(Darfur24) The British Ambassador to Khartoum, Giles Lever, expressed his optimism that the various Sudanese parties would reach a new political settlement in the coming weeks.
Lever said: “I became more optimistic about the possibility of reaching a new settlement within weeks”.
Speaking at a ceremony organized by the British Embassy in cooperation with the British Council on Wednesday , the UK ambassador said “we are currently making every effort to help the various Sudanese parties to reach a political agreement that re-establishes the constitutional system and the transitional government with a civilian leadership” .
Lever described the October 25 coup as a major setback in Sudan’s democratic process.
The ambassador explained that democracy is not only elections, but means the rule of law, accountability, transparency, freedom of expression, and citizen participation in public life.
