Khartoum, October 24(Darfur24) The official spokesman for the armed forces, Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, revealed, on Monday, that a fact-finding committee had been formed  to investigate   the security situation in the Blue Nile region.

 

General Nabil Abdullah said the committee is  headed by the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Lieutenant-General Khaled Abdeen Al-Shami, and representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs.

 

On Sunday, October 23,  furious protesters burned the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Blue Nile Regional Government, denouncing the killing of hundreds of civilians in  a new wave of tribal fighting.

 

Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah explained to Darfur 24 that Major General Rabee Abdullah Adam had been appointed commander of the Blue Nile Military District, which includes more than one division and includes all the army forces present in “Sinnar, Singa, and Damazin.

 

protesters demanded the dismissal of the regional governor, Ahmed Al-Omda, and  bringing  those involved in  the incidents to book.

 

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to (Darfur 24), tribal groups set fire to the government secretariat in the city of Damazin, after they submitted a memorandum calling for the governor’s dismissal, and then went to the army headquarters and  submitted same memorandum, where they gave the government 48 hours to meet their demands.

 

This comes as citizens live in a state of panic, and the number of displaced people is increasing, who have fled, after renewed violent tribal conflict, in the locality of Wad Al-Mahi and in the city of Roseires, located on the eastern bank of the Blue Nile, about 157 kilometers from the city of Damazin.

Jamal Nasser, Minister of Health, said: “Hospitals are facing a huge shortage of medicines in light of the increase in the number of injured people.”
