The former affiliate of the Border Guard forces, Barmat Al Khair, told Darfur 24 that unnamed leaders of the armed forces had invited a number of retired former fighters in those forces to meet with them in Khartoum to discuss possible ways to return the forces to the army units.
Al-Khair added that there are two ways for this: either issuing a decree by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to cancel the decree of the former commander-in-chief – ousted President Al-Bashir – to integrate the border guards into the Rapid Support and return them to the army, or announcing a new recruitment and returning the retired ones to the service.
In 2017, the Border Guard forces which Sheikh Musa Hilal had a wide influence among their fighters – were merged into the Rapid Support Forces, which caused sharp disputes between Hilal and Hemedti that developed into armed confrontations between supporters of Hilal and rapid support forces, which ended with the arrest of Musa Hilal and his detention for four years.
