Nyala, October 8(Darfur24)Dozens of tourists were attacked , their belongings were looted and severely beaten at the waterfalls of Jebel Marra in Darfur on Friday by gunmen.
One of the tourists, Khaled Abdel Wahed, said that they were attacked and looted by 4 masked gunmen in the “Nalmi” waterfall in the Nertiti area, west of Jebel Marra.
Khaled explained to Darfur 24 that they reached the waterfall after midday and while they were enjoying the views and waters of the waterfall, the gunmen raided them, and added: They threatened us after they gathered us in one place.
He stated that the gunmen told them that these sites are forbidden to be visited by a tourist or a military, and added that they insulted us in obscene terms, and searched our bags and took phones, money, girls’ rings and some clothes, and threw food in the water of the waterfall
. Khaled said “my 14-year-old son and another 13-year-old boy were with me. They stripped them, and hit my son in the chest with the butt of the rifle. After they gathered everything from us, they told us to lay down on the ground, and then withdrew and left us”.
According to Darfur24 sources in Nertiti, the tourists were subjected to two separate looting incidents, and one of the tourists, Salma Muhammad Adam, explained that the same gunmen looted at gunpoint more than 90 tourists, men and women, and stated that while they were in the waterfall, the group of four people armed with two guns attacked them and ordered them to lie on the ground and took from them all their belongings “phones, money, clothes, and rings.”
They added: After about 35 minutes, they released us, and warned us not to come to the Nertiti area again.
