Khartoum, September 28(Darfur24) The administration of Al-Sudani newspaper was surprised by a decision of the Information Crimes Prosecution( ICP) to block the newspaper’s website.
Social media users circulated a letter from the Information Crimes Prosecutor; Abdel Moneim Abdel Hafez to the Communications Regulatory Authority instructing it to close the Al-Sudani newspaper’s website.
The editor-in-chief of Al-Sudani, Ataf Muhammad Mukhtar, said that the newspaper’s management and staff were surprised by the decision which went viral on social media.
Ataf added in statements to Darfur 24 that the newspaper did not receive any request from the prosecution to appear before it in any communication, and expressed his surprise at the issuance of a court ruling by a prosecutor in the complete absence of the defendant’s knowledge.
The newspaper sent its legal advisor to investigate the report, after which the prosecution took a judicial decision to close the newspaper’s website and identify the complainant.
It is noteworthy that the same prosecutor had previously suspended a number of news websites, including Al-Sudani newspaper and Bag News.
