El-Fashir, September 20(Darfur24)Residents of a number of villages in Umm Kadada locality, 180 km east of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, complained of locust attacks on agricultural crops.
Muhammad Al-Tom, a local community leader in Umm Kadada locality, said that there is a terrible spread of locust swarms in the villages north of Umm Kadada locality, and he cautioned that there are teams to spray agricultural pests, but it is not enough to cover agricultural areas.
While the Director-General of the State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Inam Ismail, downplayed these complaints, and told Darfur 24 that the control teams started spraying operations in Umm Kadada locality more than a week ago.
Early on, farmers in a number of North Darfur localities expressed concern about the failure of the agricultural season citing locust attacks and insecurity.
