A report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR revealed Sunday a financial deficit of 71% facing the UN agency to complete its activities in the Darfur region of western Sudan.
The report submitted by the UNHCR head office in El Fasher indicated that 4,229,501 people are the target total of refugees and displaced persons in Darfur.
The report also indicated that the Darfur region hosts 194,101 refugees, most of whom are from South Sudan 83%, while 12% are from the Central African Republic and 2% are from Chad.
The report indicated that the total number of displaced people in Darfur states is 3,095,246, while the number of returnees is 940,152.
Speaking to reporters in North Darfur , Ms. Modesta, UNHCR Media Officer, said that UNHCR relies on the media to address issues facing refugees and displaced people, especially basic services such as water, health and education, and called on the media to reverse its activities to help it attract support to continue to meet its needs.
