Noting that a decision was issued earlier by the Council of Ministers to transfer the supervision of the company from the Prime Ministry to the Ministry of Commerce, but the Minister of Commerce transferred the decision from supervision to devolution, and appointed at a later time himself as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company.
Speaking to reporters in Khartoum on Monday, head of the dissolved farmers’ committee said they will resort to the judiciary to restore the right to its owners.
Jad Karim confirmed that the government owns only 30% of the shares, while farmers own about 70%, and asserted that the Ministry of Commerce’s procedures for appointing a director for the company are incorrect, because it does not have these powers over a private company for farmers.
In turn, the lawyer, Dr. Kamal Muhammad Al-Amin, confirmed that the Sudan Cotton Company, according to the certificate of incorporation in 1985, is a private company, describing the decision of the Minister of Trade regarding it as wrong.
Lawyer Kamal indicated that they are waiting for a fatwa from the Ministry of Justice, whether the company is public or private.
