Nyala, August 21(Darfur24) ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan affirmed the court’s keenness to achieve justice with honor and integrity.
Khan said at the begging of his visit to Darfur region, which he started in South Darfur state , that the purpose of his visit to Kalma IDP camp is to see for himself IDPs who have been in the camps for eighteen years, pointing to the importance of achieving justice for them without hearing it as a slogan.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the government of South Darfur state in Nyala, Khan said that it was agreed with the Sudanese government to send two ICC members to find out the reality of the situation on the ground in South Darfur state.
The Prosecutor of the Criminal Court, Karim Khan, arrived this morning, Sunday, to the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, for a visit that lasts hours. Upon his arrival, he held a meeting with the state government and members of the Security Committee.
Khan said that his visit to Darfur comes for the first time to confirm his responsibilities and his service to justice with honor and integrity to help Sudan deal with the problems it faces with the Criminal Court, stressing that the Juba Agreement approved the achievement of justice.
Khan explained that Kushayb’s case is going well again, thanking those who raised the point of protecting witnesses and victims and government officials who spoke about the necessity of achieving peace, adding: “I assured them that peace is the cornerstone of justice.”
For his part, the Wali of South Darfur, Hamid El-Tijani Hanoon, affirmed the continuous cooperation with the International Criminal Court and facilitating its mission in accordance with the agreement with the Government of Sudan.
