Nyala, August 15(Darfur24) The government of South Darfur said that the torrential rains that hit a number of areas of the state killed 14 people and caused damage to about 782,000 people, and the total collapse of 1965 houses, and the number of 9,321 houses that partially collapsed, in addition to the collapse of 4929 latrines  as well as destruction of farms.

 

The Governor of South Darfur, Hamid El-Tijani Hanoon, said  during his meeting in Khartoum on Sunday with  Federal Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid that the tragic conditions caused by torrential rains and floods in a number of the state’s localities exceeded the capabilities of his government, and that they need urgent interventions from the center and organizations working in the humanitarian field.

 

He explained that the state has a number of (fragility areas), along with 62 camps for the displaced, five gatherings for returnees and five refugee camps, indicating that the floods led to the complete collapse of 1965 houses, and about 9,321 houses that partially collapsed, along with the collapse of 4,929 latrines.

The Federal Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Najm El-Din Musa Abdel Karim, promised to provide the necessary support to confront the effects of torrential rains and floods in South Darfur, and said that the situation in the affected areas needs to combine all official and popular efforts and urgent intervention to confront them.
