Khartoum, August 9(Darfur24) The United Nations revealed, on Monday, that more than 300 people were killed and about 160,000 displaced as a result of the armed conflict in five Sudanese states during the period from January to last July.

 

According to the OCHA report, the local armed conflict and insecurity have displaced thousands of people and disrupted life in parts of Sudan.

 

From January to July 2022, the conflict displaced 163,748 people across Darfur, South Kordofan, West Kordofan and Blue Nile states. More than half of the newly displaced came from West Darfur In addition to 322 people killed and 329 injured.

 

As the rainy season approaches, the number of people affected by heavy rains and floods has risen to 38,000 by the end of July, with the majority of those affected by floods in West Darfur.

 

The rainy season usually begins in June and lasts until September, with peak rainfall and floods observed in August and September and in 2021, around 314,500 people were affected by rains and floods across Sudan.

 

The average number of people affected by floods across the country for five years is 460,800.
