On Sunday, the United Nations revealed that three people were killed and two others wounded, in East Jebel Marra locality, South Darfur state, as a result of an armed conflict between the factions of the Sudan Liberation Army, led by Abdel Wahed Al-Nur.

According to a report by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), there were reports of sporadic clashes between the Sudan Liberation Army between 15 and 21 July in parts of East El Jabal locality in South Darfur state, which led to the killing of three people, the injury of two others, and the displacement of some residents to Katur locality and  Tawila in North Darfur, according to the local community, leaders and humanitarian partners.

The report added  that the clashes were due to a dispute over land ownership.

The report indicated that about 2,453 families were displaced to Katour from 15 villages in East Jebel Marra (part of South Darfur) due to the fighting.

OCHA revealed that an interagency assessment mission to Kotor (scheduled for July 20 and then July 24) was postponed due to insecurity.

Local sources from Funga city also confirmed the insecurity, due to the tensions between the Bedouins and the surrounding communities as well as the internal tensions between the SLA factions. OCHA is following up with humanitarian partners and other relevant actors to conduct an inter-agency mission to Cator as soon as the security situation permits.

The number of displaced people to the East al-Jabal locality has not yet been determined. According to reports, the fighting has led to the closure of the road between Kutour and Deribat, and the road between Marshang and Deribat in South Darfur, to commercial vehicles and government officials.
