El-Geneina,July 1(Darfur24) Vice-President of the Transitional
Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo,
revealed the existence of large gatherings of gunmen, whom he
described as outlaws, in West Darfur, and at the same time gave them
24 hours to disperse their gatherings, before government forces
intervened to resolve them and impose the prestige of the state – he
said –
Addressing a tribal reconciliation Friday in the city of El Geneina,
capital of West Darfur Dagalo warned of the entry of large quantities
of weapons into Darfur, and directed the regular forces to follow up
the source of these weapons, so as not to contribute to fueling
conflicts between various components of the community.
He said that there are moves led by some to thwart the
reconciliations that took place between the tribes in West Darfur.
He added:” These reconciliations are real, and guarding and
preserving them will be by force of law and imposing the prestige of
the state”.
Hemedti called Sultan Dar Masalit to take advantage of his societal
powers to “clean “three streets in the city of El Geneina from
criminals and outlaws, in addition to using the preventive force
through the regular forces to deter them according to the law.
In recent years, West Darfur has witnessed recurrent conflicts between
the tribes inhabiting it, which led to the killing of hundreds of
citizens and the burning of villages and some cities and dismantling
of IDP camps.
Tribal wars in the state has led to bad security and social
situations that forced Hemeti and other senior government officials
from the Sovereign council to spend two weeks in El-Geneina looking
for solutions ..
