El-Daein, June 22(Darfur24) The Savings and Social Development Bank
SSDB has retracted the decision to stop financing farmers in East
Darfur, in response to the demands of the state delegation headed by
the designated governor, Muhammad Adam Abdel Rahman, and the head of
the Ma’aliya tribe, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Safi, the director of the
Savings and Development Bank, his deputy, and the Director of the
Investment Department.
The meeting, which was held at the bank’s presidency in Khartoum,
discussed the issue of the bank’s announcement of stopping the
financing of farmers for this season, due to the inability of a number
of them to pay the debts of the last agricultural season.
Osman Qassem, one of the farmers, told Darfur 24: The bank manager at
the center committed himself, after the meeting, to resuming the
financing of farmers in East Darfur within the next 48 hours.
Two days ago, Darfur24 published the fears of farmers in the “Abi
Karenka” area, famous for its agricultural production, about the
failure of the agricultural season for this year due to the suspension
of agricultural season financing.
