Khartoum, June 22(Darfur24) The African Union announced on Tuesday its
withdrawal from participating in the dialogue sessions aimed at
addressing the Sudanese political crisis.
Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche said that the African Union cannot
continue on a path that is not followed by transparency, honesty,
non-exclusion, and respect for all actors and their equal treatment.
He added – at a press conference in Khartoum – that the African Union
does not ask for any role and does not object to any method chosen by
the Sudanese to resolve their crisis.
He said the African leadership decided that there is no need to
attend meetings of camouflage, evasion and lack of transparency in an
exclusionary atmosphere.
The African envoy, Dr. Mohamed Wad Labat, left unannounced earlier
this week for the Ethiopian capital after the dialogue between the
Sudanese parties in Khartoum faltered.
Darfur24 learned from private sources that Wad Debat was summoned by
the African Union Commission to warn him that his inclination to the
military component might undermine the efforts of political solutions
in Sudan.
The source said that the Chairperson of the African Union Commission,
Moussa Faki, discussed – at the time – with Wad Labbat in a closed
session the possibility of submitting his resignation from his
position as the representative of the African Union in the tripartite
mechanism or terminating his mandate from the African Union.
