Khartoum, June 3(Darfur24) Today, the UN Security Council extended the
mandate of the UN mission UNITAMS to Sudan for an additional year,
amid international efforts to resolve the political crisis facing the
country.
Representatives of the member states of the Security Council voted,
unanimously, in favor of extending the mandate of the United Nations
Integrated Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) until
June 3, 2023.
The United Nations, the African Union and the Intergovernmental
Authority on Development (IGAD) are facilitating a political dialogue
to resolve the Sudanese crisis, while Western countries support
mediation efforts and urge various factions to engage in it.
The head of the UN mission in Sudan, Volker , had earlier warned
during a meeting of the Security Council, held last March, that Sudan
was on the verge of a security and economic collapse.
