El-Fashir May 11(Darfur24)North Darfur State Police arrested 5 young
men accused of raping 6 displaced women last Monday in the Goz Bina
area, east of Zamzam camp, southwest of El Fasher, the state capital.
A police source, Fadl Azim, told Darfur24 that members of the Goz Bina
police, 15 kilometers from Zamzam camp, tracked down the perpetrators
after they received a report of the crime of raping 6 girls, and
stated that the rapists left white weapons and phones after committing
the crime.
The source stated that security force arrested the five
perpetrators, and they confessed that they had commited the crime,
and they were transferred to the Zamzam camp police station, southwest
of El Fasher, before being handed over to the Southern Police
Department.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Muhajiriya neighborhood in Zamzam camp
confirmed the arrest of the perpetrators, and indicated that 6
displaced women went out to fetch straw with an 11-year-old child and
were raped.
The IDP community leader stated that two of the raped women were 30
years old, three were 18 years old, and another was 20 years old. The
mayor indicated that the child was also seriously harmed due to
beatings by the perpetrators.
Activists on social media circulated information about the rape of
girls aged between 11 to 15 years, which was denied by the mayor of
Muhajiriya neighborhood.
