Khartoum, May 9 (Darfur24) Sudanese Initiative for Human Rights SIHR revealed increasing violations of freedom of the press and expression in Sudan after the October 25 coup.

A report by the initiative, on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, issued today, Monday, documented  65 violations against journalists, during six months, that varied between arrests, beatings, dragging and trampling, in addition to the continuous intimidation of female journalists. 5 From the headquarters of media institutions operating in Khartoum.

Report also analyzed the new patterns of violations that emerged after the military coup, especially the systematic targeting of photojournalists. The report monitored the targeting of 11 photojournalists while covering the demonstrations, in addition to identifying the perpetrators of violations.

The results of the report showed the emergence of military intelligence as a major violator of press freedoms, after the coup, as its officers took control of the national radio and television services.

In addition to carrying out a number of arrests of journalists, the intelligence also exercised the powers of the old security apparatus in imposing tribal censorship on media institutions, especially FM radio stations, which forced them to sign preconditions to allow them to resume broadcasting.
