Khartoum, April 26(Darfur24) The Secretary-General of the United Nations has  condemned the killing of civilians, and the attacks on health facilities, which took place in Karinak locality in West Darfur state in Sudan.

 

In a statement, the Secretary-General of the United Nations called for an immediate cessation of violence.

 

The  UN chief  offered condolences to the families of the dead, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. .

The Secretary-General stressed the importance of enhancing security in Darfur, including through the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement, the strengthening of the rule of law, the protection of human rights, and the full implementation of the National Plan for the Protection of Civilians.

The UN Secretary-General called for unimpeded humanitarian access and an independent investigation into the Krenk events to ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable. While the European Union Mission in Sudan announced that  The Union is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need, and requests the authorities to facilitate free, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian actors on the ground in Darfur.

EU added: “The recent reports frightened the European Union, which speaks of the outbreak of deadly clashes between communities in West Darfur during the past days and weeks, which led to a large number of victims and the destruction of health facilities.

EU added, “All signatories to the Juba Peace Agreement signed by the government with armed movements on October 3, 2020 bear a joint responsibility for protecting civilians.”

“there is an urgent need to establish and train joint security forces by the Sudanese armed forces and armed movements under the Juba Peace Agreement, and it needs to be expedited.”EU concluded
