Zalingie , Feb 28(Darfur24) The Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Central Darfur said that the food stocks of the population are sufficient for them for one month only, which warns of imminent famine in Central Darfur state.

The Director-General of the Ministry, the Engineer, El-Zein Abdel-Rahman El-Zein, told Darfur 24 that the stockpile of food produced in the past agricultural season is sufficient for the month of March, and this warns of a famine in the event that the state government does not remedy the situation.

However, he reassured the citizens that alternative commodities from Khartoum, such as rice and flour, if available, would fill the food gap.

He called on the state government to seek to provide alternative goods during the month of March to avoid the specter of starvation.

Altaj attributed the causes of the famine to the early fall of the fall season before the maturity of most agricultural crops, in addition to the high prices of fuel and agricultural inputs, which contributed to reducing the cultivated areas last season.

Al-Taj stated that the inability of the state government to combat agricultural pests due to the economic conditions of Sudan exacerbated the situation further.

He added  that his ministry, in solidarity with three organizations, conducted an agricultural survey for the purpose of evaluating the agricultural season.
