Al-Daein, Feb 28(Darfur24) Armed youths from the oil fields areas of West Kordofan state launched Sunday a second armed attack on the Balila field, which is 55 km southwest of the city of Al-Fula, the state capital, which led to 12 wells being out of service.
The head of the Oil Fields Youth Assembly, Ezz El-Din Idam Yahya, told Darfur 24 that the youth who carried out the attack broke the law with their armed attack on the oil fields.
He added: The Oil Fields Youth Association was established as a civil demand body that aims to ask oil companies to provide services to the areas adjacent to the fields, and to find job opportunities for the people of those areas.
But the oil companies and the government ignored the residents’ demands, prompting some young people to take up arms against the government.
The Balila oil field was subjected to the first attack last Monday by the same armed group, which resulted in the injury of one of the oil field workers.
The gunmen took control of the field for several hours before withdrawing without resistance from the government forces.
There are 12 oil fields in West Kordofan State, the largest of which is the Balila field.
