Khartoun-Jan13(Darfur24) The Sudanese Journalists Network condemned the violations of the military coup forces against journalists while covering the processions of January 13. The network said in a statement seen by Darfur24 “in a criminal behavior that contradicts international conventions to protect journalists, the forces of the coup d’état beat fellow colleague Shamael Al-Nur”.
The statement indicated that journalists Othman Fadlallah and Bakri Al-Khalifa miraculously escaped death after being run over by the troop carriers.
According to the statement the coup forces stormed the office of Al-Araby channel, and took journalists Islam Saleh, Wael Muhammad Al-Hassan, and the cameraman Mazen Anwar to an unknown destination.
The statement added that the press and media in Sudan are facing massive targeting and continuous violations that have escalated in an unprecedented manner since the military coup took place on October 25.
In the past weeks, the offices of Al-Arabiya, Al-Hadath and Al-Sharq channels were subjected to raids by the security forces, and they beat and abused journalists working there, looting some of their properties and destroying press equipment in the offices.
