28.12.2021(Khartoum) Israeli media reported that Tel Aviv will begin granting temporary residence next week to 2,440 asylum seekers from Sudan.
It worth noting that the asylum seekers from the Sudanese regions of Darfur, Blue Nile and Nuba Mountain have been in Israel for years waiting for this decision.
The Temporary residence in Israel ,will be granted to asylum seekers from the Darfur, Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile regions of Sudan, who submitted their applications before 2017, according to notifications sent to the various courts that were dealing with the petitions submitted by asylum seekers.
The widely read Israeli Newspaper, “Haaretz” stated in a report that the beneficiaries of this measure will enjoy almost all the rights of Israeli citizens, with the exception of voting in elections or running for government positions.
The process of granting temporary residence to asylum seekers from Sudan will begin in the coming days, with the publication of a list on the website of the Immigration and Population Authority on the website of all those entitled to temporary status, while these people will be summoned to the authority where they will receive approval by the end of next January, according to the newspaper, Haaretz.
Last April, the Israeli Supreme Court had ordered the government to take a decision on Sudanese asylum applications by the end of this year.
Haaretz newspaper quoted a Sudanese immigrant, Munim Haroun, as saying that “this development is an important step for us, as some have been waiting for more than eight years to hear such a decision”.
Haron was also quoted as indicating that “the asylum seekers were hoping that Israel would recognize the genocide from which they fled, and grant them status, without the need for a decision from the Supreme Court”.
While the newspaper “the time of Israel” pointed out, in the conclusion of a report in this regard, that the situation in Sudan is still ambiguous, after a military coup earlier this year that led to the overthrew of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok first, then reinstated him under military supervision.
