September 29, 2021 (Khartoum)A senior official at Sudan’s Ministry of Finance announced that the World Bank has agreed to finance 17 major projects, including energy, irrigation, and agriculture, at a cost of $2 billion.
Sudan paid its debts to the World Bank in March 2021, with a bridge loan from America, which made Sudan eligible to receive development financing.
Adviser to the Minister of Finance for International Cooperation, Heba Muhammad Ali, said the transitional government has agreed with the World Bank to finance 17 projects at a cost of two billion dollars.
Heba added that the projects will be implemented in all regions of Sudan, focusing on the Darfur region, the Nuba Mountains and eastern Sudan.
This funding from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank, is the first of its kind for Sudan in 27 years, and the country has been deprived of this funding because of its debts to the World Bank and its presence on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
