September 27, 2021 (Khartoum) Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Peretz, announced on Monday the readiness of the United Nations to support holding of a comprehensive dialogue between components of the transitional period in Sudan.
Volker Peretz stressed the need to address issues of political transition through constructive dialogue between partners.
According to Sudan News Agency, Volker’s meetings discussed political developments in the country against the background of the recent events in the political arena, as well as the progress of work in accomplishing the tasks of the transitional period, including the completion of the peace process with the non-sognatory movements , the arrangements for the upcoming constitutional dialogue and the preparing for elections.
Volcker called on the partners of the transitional period to reduce escalation and media exchanges and focus on dialogue and cooperation.
UNITAMS chief said political differences are normal, but cooperation is necessary for the sake of the homeland to move forward towards political transition, internal peace and democracy.
Member of the Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi, told reporters that the meeting touched on the important role of UNITAMS in supporting the transitional government.
Al-Taishi said that partners of the transitional period should learn from the glorious December revolution and Sudan’s dark experiences in military coups and political instability.
