August 19, 2021(Zalengie )     Darfur24 has learned that the Ministry of Health in Central Darfur intends to dispose of  expired medicines containing intravenous solutions, types of pediatric medicines and life-saving medicines.

The Director-General of the Ministry of Health in the state, ٍSayda Adam, said that the medicines had expired in the ministry’s stores for a long time, and she claimed that the drugs belong to the organizations of Mercy Corp and Care, who were expelled from Darfur in 2007.

However, she acknowledged the existence of other expired quantities belonging to the state’s Health Emergency Department,  confirming  that she had no knowledge of the quantities of these medicines, their storage conditions, and the reasons that led to their damage or expiration.

She stated, “The Ministry of Health has tried to get rid of these drugs, but the matter needs safety measures and authorization  from the Federal Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, Zalingei Teaching Hospital faces a shortage of life-saving medicines.

Rasha Al-Zubair Khamis, a nurse in the hospital, told Darfur 24 that the hospital suffers from an acute shortage of pediatric medicines, intravenous solutions, and antibiotics, while the Ministry of Health stores these medicines in its warehouses until they become expired.
