August 4, 2021 (Khartoum) Sudan’s Cabinet On Tuesday ,approved a law to join the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“Today, during the periodic session of the Council of Ministers, we unanimously approved the draft law on Sudan’s accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, in preparation for a joint meeting between the Sovereignty Councils and the coucil of Ministers to approve it,” Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok tweeted.)

Sudan’s prime minister tweeted confirming the move without giving further details.

 

“Justice and accountability are a solid foundation of the new, rule of law-based Sudan we’re striving to build,” Abdalla Hamdok tweeted.  However, the constitutional document that governs the transitional period in Sudan stipulated Sudan’s ratification of all agreements and conventions calling for the maintenance of human rights and peace.

The US State Department commented on Sudan’s adoption of the law on joining the criminal court, saying: “Good news from Khartoum, the Sudanese Council of Ministers approved the draft law to join the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.”
