July 29, 2021 -The Under-Secretary-General for Field Support revealed varying degrees of destruction and theft in 10 of the 14 UNAMID sites that were handed over to the local authorities, estimated at 41 million US dollars. He noted that although the authorities had pledged to investigate these incidents, several Sudanese interlocutors nonetheless suggested that these incidents resulted from underlying tensions between local groups. Atul Kari briefed the Security Council on his recent visit to Sudan and the progress made in the liquidation of UNAMID. Carey said the remaining personnel would be employees involved in the liquidation of the mission.
