July 29, 2021 (Nyala) On Wednesday, torrential rain swept large parts of the city of Ed al-Fursan, 86 km west of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur. According to residents, the torrential rains caused heavy losses to buildings and property, at a time when the local meteorological services estimated the amount of rain that fell at about 128 mm.
Al-Sadiq Ahmed Muhammad told the local radio Nyala that the rise in water inside the houses exceeded a meter, which forced families to evacuate children, the infirm and the elderly to higher areas, and added, “Now, most of the affected families are in the open.
The Executive Director of Ad Al-Fursan locality, Muhammad Bashir, stated that the damage caused by the torrents to the city exceeded the capabilities of the local government.
