Darfur 24 journalist Abdelmoneim Madibo was arrested in a brutal manner on Tuesday by An armed group affiliated with the Sudan Liberation Forces Movement, led by member of the Sovereignty Council, Taher Hajar, while he was covering an event at the former UNAMID headquarters in the northern vicinity of Nyala, South Darfur.
The freelance journalist who works for both Darfur 24 electronic News paper and the French News Agency AFP in Nyala said “While conducting the photojournalism process, an armed group surrounded me and asked me to go with them to their office , they handcuffed me , then they started beating me insanely with whips in the back.”
He continued, despite showing my journalistic identity, they continued their brutal assault.
Madibo explained that he was placed under the sun, handcuffed for more than 15 hours, as he was deprived of eating and contacting his family.
A media official in the office of the governor of South Darfur intervened, where Madibo was transferred to the governor’s house, and then released in the early hours of this morning.
