The court trying plotters of June 30,1989 coup continued sessions here today, chaired by Justice Ahmed Ali.
The court decided dropping the suit against Al-Zubair Ahmed Hassan for the death of the defendant and ending freeze of bank account numbers under his name.
Police Colonel Jamal Mohamed Al-Khalifa read out the facts of the investigations before the court, stating that the planning of the coup by the Islamic Movement began in 1976 after the reconciliation with former President Jaafar Nimeiri, and continued until its implementation by the movement’s civil and military cadres in June 1989.
Al-Khalifa revealed the existence of two groups linked to the coup, the first of which was a group of Islamic Front’s cadres that participated in the planning and implementation, and setting the zero hour, who were Hassan Abdallah al-Turabi, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, Yassin Omer al-Imam, Abdullah Hassan Ahmed, Ali al-Hajj, Ibrahim Mohamed al-Senussi, Awad Ahmed al-Jaz, Ahmed Abdel-Rahman, and headed by Hassan al-Turab.
The second category whose role was to link the military with civilians included Ahmed Mohamed Ali Al-Fashashoya, Al-Zubair Ahmed Hassan, Mohamed Abdel Hafeez Al-Donglawi, Ali Ahmed Karti, Omer Abdel-Maarouf, Mahmoud Sharif, Mohamed Hassan, Nafie Ali Nafie and Ali Al-Raiah.
Al-Khalifa also revealed the military personnel who participated in the plotting and carried out the coup, who were Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, Bakri Hassan Saleh, Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein, Al-Tayeb Ibrahim Mohamed Khair, Osman Ahmed, Mohamed Mahmoud Jameh, Ahmed Abdullah Al-Naw, Mohamed Al-Khanjar Al-Tayeb, Abdullah Abdulmutallab, Mohamed Awad Al-Karim Badawi, Youssef Abdel Fattah, Osman Abdullah Yusuf, Siddiq Fadl, Al Hadi Abdullah, Salah Karar, Younis Mahmoud and Faisal Ali.
