South Sudanese mediation decided on Tuesday to put off the direct negotiation sessions between the Sudanese transitional government and the SPLM-N north led by Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu, in order to conduct further consultations on the contentious issues between the two parties.
Tut Galwak, Adviser to the President of the Republic of South Sudan for Security Affairs and Head of the Southern Mediation Team, said in a press statement that the mediation will conduct contacts between the delegations of the Transitional Government and the SPLM North to bridge the gap between the negotiating teams.
Lieutenant-General Shams El-Din Kabbashi, member of the Transitional Sovereign Council and head of the government’s negotiating delegation, said that the negotiation sessions between the Government of Sudan and the SPLM- north were dominated by a positive spirit and real will that enabled the two parties to move forward in discussing the remaining issues.
Kabbashi added, “With the same will and desire for peace, the government delegation will return to the next round whenever conditions are created to complete pending issues with the SPLM- north”
The Secretary-General of SPLM north Ammar Amon stressed that the will and determination of the two negotiating parties towards peace enabled the two sides to reach great understandings on contentious issues, indicating that the two parties agreed on the draft framework agreement by 75 to 80%.
