The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Jibril Ibrahim issued a decision raising fuel prices (petrol – gasoline) as part of the state’s policy aimed at reforming the national economy and establishing a structure that enables state institutions and the private sector to deal with international financial institutions.
Petrol and diesel prices in Sudan have risen sharply following fuel subsidy reforms, which are part of a series of economic measures that have helped set the country on course for substantial debt relief.
.Petrol prices rose to 290 pounds a liter and diesel prices increased to more than 285 a liter at fuel stations.
However, the policy of lifting subsidy on fuel which came too late – is capable of removing many distortions in the economy, as the state spends about one billion dollars annually in subsidies for fuels.
